Begin With Intention

Is anyone else feeling a bit all over the place? Between the holidays, this most recent bout of unseasonable weather, & a Full Moon, my body is flat out confused. (Full disclosure: I'm feeling my way out of a funk because the holidays aren't really my jam anyways, but that's a story for another day.)

It’s natural to find yourself in some sort of reflective state as the year winds down & I’m sure you’ve seen a countless amount of articles & posts on social media vying for your attention on the year that was. This past year has been challenging yet immensely rewarding for me, & if you're up for it, read my take in last week's post, 15 for 2015.

Now it's time to begin looking forward as 2016 is knocking on our doors so today I want to share a handful of intentions & goals I have set for myself in the new year. I also want to share with you my simple how-to to get you primed for thinking big in the months to come.

Make New Year’s goals. Dig within, and discover what you would like to have happen in your life this year. This helps you do your part. It is an affirmation that you’re interested in fully living life in the year to come.
— Melody Beattie

In an effort to keep things exciting & suspenseful around here I’ve decided to share only a few of the things I am calling into my life in the next 366 days.

I WANT TO FEEL & GIVE LOVE.

I WANT TO CONTINUE GROWING AS A
COACH, CREATIVE, & HUMAN.

I WANT TO CULTIVATE CONNECTION & EXTEND
BOTH MY PHYSICAL & VIRTUAL REACH.

I WANT TO LEAN INTO DISCOMFORT (YIKES!).
A WORKSHOP & AN EBOOK, & PASSION PROJECTS, OH MY.

I WANT MORE ADVENTURE.
I’M TALKING A STAY IN A NEW COUNTRY, VISITING NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN
CORNERS OF THE STATES,
AND A ROAD TRIP.

And here are the actions & questions which help me suss out what I most want for myself at any given time, but especially when I'm facing a shiny new year.

• CLEAR YOUR MIND
Set time aside with little to no distractions so you can establish a clear mindset. This will allow you to focus in on those things which you most desire.

• ASK & FEEL
These five questions are essential so don’t pressure yourself to answer one way or another. Let it flow.

1. What’s been your biggest achievement?
Keeping what you’ve accomplished in mind gives way for further achievements.

2. What are you most grateful for?
An attitude of gratitude will always yield more to be thankful for, truth.

3. What are you most looking forward to?
You have my permission to get excited & think BIG.

4. How are you going to celebrate yourself & your journey along the way?
In my opinion, gratitude & celebration go hand-in-hand. I’m also a huge fan of making toasts whenever possible.

5. How do you want to feel?
Really this goes for everything from your day-to-day to the next year & everything in between.

• MAKE IT VISUAL
Create a visual representation of everything you wrote down. Add it to your vision board if that’s your style. Paint, draw, design your heart out. Or simply type it up in the notes on your phone so it's readily available.

This time of year can feel slightly overwhelming, believe me I'm right there with you. Make it a point to take some time for yourself. Breathe. And then enjoy what remains of 2015  do something spontaneous, celebrate with loved ones, & give yourself some kudos.

Leave a comment below with one intention you are creating for yourself in the coming months & let me leave you with this  one of my most favorite photographs & a quote to stoke the fire.

Your way begins at the other side.
Become the sky.
Take an axe to the prison wall.
Escape.
Walk out like someone suddenly
born into color.

Do it now.
