Trust The Timing

When is the last time you put complete & utter trust into your journey?

It’s hard for me to ignore the signs I’ve been receiving over the past few weeks encouraging me to slow down & allow myself to enjoy what’s happening around me rather than trying to control & predict the outcome. That may sound pretty far out there, but hear me out.

Can you remember the last time you allowed your journey to navigate itself without constantly worrying or attempting to divert the flow?

Stick with me.

What happens when you rush something, whether it’s making breakfast, your afternoon workout, or a creative project? How do you feel when you have to hand something over before you’re completely happy with the end result?

It doesn’t feel so great & actually it may feel a bit half-assed, less than stellar, or really like a waste of time.

Case in point & a bit of realness: I had all the intentions to launch this very space on a specific day & I pulled an all-nighter with 2 espresso-laden beverages to make sure the launch stuck to the schedule. But I wasn’t totally happy with what I was looking at when the time came to share my online home with the world. I decided to officially bring this baby into the world a day later when I was excited & proud of the finished product and I consider the launch a success despite missing my original date.

Your heart is the size of an ocean. Go find yourself in its hidden depths.

Personally, I let my heart make a majority of decisions because it hasn’t steered me wrong in my twenty-odd years of life. I’ll make a pros & cons list when it comes to the biggies (i.e. a move to another state, a new relationship, or a new job) but my heart almost always outweighs logic. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still feel nerves, a bit of worry, & a touch of fear for the unknown but I trust my heart as the GPS for my journey.

Opportunity seems to be endless when you open yourself up & allow your heart to follow its desires. Saying that & even reading that sentence is A LOT easier than putting this practice into use, but here are four more thoughts to back up why you should respect the timing of your heart.

patience rather than pressure

Hurrying or rushing through anything will bring up feelings of stress, overwhelm, & maybe even disappointment. Patience is a necessary trait for living a more meaningful life & I can just about guarantee you will feel happier when you can remain calm, cool, & collected amidst a big decision.

intuition rather than ignorance

You know that feeling deep down in your stomach you get when you’re either doing something you love or, vice versa, when you’re forcing yourself to work through something that resembles a chore? Listen to it. That feeling will continue to guide you toward living the life you truly want but only if you are open & allow it to do so.

joyful rather than jaded

You are exerting way more effort trying to control your current situation when all that energy could be put towards something you enjoy. As hard as this may be, loosen up the reins so you can sit back & revel in the beauty of your surroundings.

pursuit rather than perfection

This is especially close to me because I have been a perfectionist my entire life but I realized I was using ‘perfection’ as an excuse while simultaneously creating unrealistic expectations for myself & my endeavors. The joy & experience is in the pursuit of what lights you up & not so much in driving yourself to the point of insanity & exhaustion in search of perfection.

Perfectionism is a 20-ton shield that we lug around thinking it will protect us when, in fact, it’s the thing that’s really preventing us from being seen and taking flight.
— Brené Brown

Following your heart & opening yourself up to opportunity can be scary, that’s for sure. It may feel like it’s easier to stay in a comfortable state, wherever that state may be, but you owe it to yourself to live your best life by pursuing those things which bring you happiness & joy.

So let’s hear it  is there something that has been showing up in your life recently that you can’t seem to shake? Better yet, what’s been holding you back from following your heart?
